Hay
Hay should make up 75% of your guinea pigs diet. Guinea pigs are herbivores, meaning they don't eat or need any kind of meat, just plant material. Their digestive system requires a constant supply of high fibre food to keep it healthy and running smoothly. Hay is not only an excellent roughage food, it also helps to keep their teeth ground down. I feed bales of hay as it is good quality, inexpensive and lasts much longer than smaller bags. I have also found it to be much fresher.

Guinea Pig First Aid Kit
Putting together a small first aid kit for your pets does not replace a vet visit, but could potentially save your pets life if they fall ill at an unexpected time. There are several books that I would recommend:
Piggy Potions
One of my favourite books, easy to read, lovely illustrations and perfect advice for a variety of symptoms - with lots of natural home remedies.
Price: £3-5
Guinea Pig Diagnostics
Professional advice, useful diagrams, easy to look through and use. Helps determine accurate diagnosis, but is paper back and would be easily destroyed.
Price: £44
Diseases of Domestic Guinea Pigs
Very professionally written, full of lots of in depth information, but can be hard to read if unexperienced. Used by trained professionals.
Price: £20-30
Here is a list of everything that I have in my Guinea Pig First Aid Kit and the reasoning for having each item. Please remember that my kit is very extensive due to owning so many guinea pigs, I would recommend starting with the basics and slowly developing your kit while you gain knowledge of their care. Please see my videos on 'Basic First Aid Kit' and my 'Full First Aid Kit' to learn more.
